About this Blanket
A young pharaoh stands at the heart of this design, wearing a blue-and-gold striped nemes headdress crowned with a rearing uraeus cobra, a broad beaded collar, banded armlets and a white pleated kilt with a decorated apron. He holds a tall striped crook-topped staff while a falcon, the bird of Horus, watches from a stone pedestal beside him.
Behind him a blazing golden sun shines over the pyramids, the blue Nile and a line of palm trees, with tall papyrus plants framing the foreground. The ornamental border repeats ankh symbols, small falcons, fan-shaped papyrus and lotus motifs and red, blue and gold striped blocks. Deep blue, warm gold, sand, terracotta red and green give it the look of an old temple painting, made for lovers of ancient Egypt and history.
